Woods Mind: A Forest-Inspired Exhibition Hall

Exploring Tacco Lee's Award-Winning Design

Tacco Lee's Woods Mind is more than just an exhibition hall; it's an experiential journey into an abstract forest. The design is inspired by the tactile sensation of walking through a forest, touching the texture of wood, and seeing the grassland from a unique perspective. This experience is brought to life through the use of repainted wood, green fluorescent acrylic, and deep gray painted aluminium alloy.

The Woods Mind exhibition hall, located in the Donggang Furniture Building in Zhongshan, Guangdong, China, spans 107 square meters. Completed in October 2017, the project showcases the exquisite wood leather process of Donggang Furniture, a factory with a rich history. The design team, led by Tacco Lee and assisted by Yan Tsui, faced the challenge of representing two key elements of a forest: grassland and trees.

The design's unique properties lie in its simplicity and its innovative use of materials. Tacco Lee used acrylic, a common material, in an unconventional way. By choosing the right color and surface smoothing, the designer was able to represent grassland. The trees, on the other hand, were represented using painted aluminium alloy and painted wood boxes, adding a functional element to the design.

The design's unique approach to representing a forest earned it the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2018.
